Orbital Marine Power was founded in Scotland in 2002 to develop a low cost generating solution for the tidal stream energy sector. Following an incremental R&D and testing programme, the company launched the world’s most powerful tidal turbine, the SR2000 in 2016, which went on to generate over 3,000 MWh of electricity. Orbital’s tidal technology is designed around the use of locally based vessels towards low cost, responsive servicing operations maximising turbine uptime and the potential to engage with the local supply chain. The company has signed an agreement with the Morlais Tidal Energy Project, Anglesey towards the development of an array of its technology there.
