Wave-tricity begin sea trials for its pioneering wave energy device.
The sea trials for this exciting project have commenced and the robust, low maintenance device that can produce clean electricity for all, is being put through its paces. The device will underpin a wide range of
product capabilities that will not only provide energy to homes across the globe, but is aimed also at nations/islands principally where the cost of generation and energy security are of national importance. It will
also be utilised to offer a desalination solution and to assist Disaster Relief providing a rapidly deployable and robust platform from which to generate clean water and energy to disaster hit regions across the world.
The project has already created both direct and indirect engineering and operations jobs in Pembrokeshire, and has also provided numerous opportunities for local businesses within the offshore renewables sector. This diversification is helping to support the whole engineering cluster in the area, which is traditionally reliant on the carbon economy.
The Wave-tricity team, which includes many ex Royal Naval personnel with over 100 years of ocean going experience between them, is joined by five times Olympic rowing champion, Sir Steve Redgrave, who has taken on the role of Product Ambassador. Sir Steve aims to help with not only the promotion of the product around the world but also with our engineering and simulation team to help perfect the best possible and therefore most powerful action.
“A number of countries have good wave energy resources but until now lacked commercially viable technologies to convert the energy. We are confident that Wave-tricity’s products will soon become part of
their energy generation mix”, said Matthew Fairclough-Kay, managing director of Wave-tricity, adding, “Our focus has been on ensuring that our energy devices are low maintenance and can survive for long
periods of time at sea. The next few months of sea testing will determine how quickly we can take these potentially life-saving devices to market.”
