Ken Skates AM, Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure has previously been announced as keynote speaker, but the team at Marine Energy Wales are also pleased to confirm that Byron Davies MP, Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Marine Energy and Tidal Lagoons will be attending the conference and providing the opening address.

David Jones, Project Director of Marine Energy Wales said:

“It is going to be a record year in terms of conference attendees. This is testament to the huge amount of work that has taken place across Wales in the last 12 months and our conference will showcase this progression. It is great to have both Ken Skates AM and Byron Davies MP speaking and demonstrating the government’s commitment to our industry here in Wales.”

Following on from the Hendry Review and the relocation of the conference to Swansea it is no surprise that tidal lagoons feature prominently on the agenda. Graham Hillier, Managing Director of Development Services for Tidal Lagoon Power commented,

“Our unique tidal range gives Wales the opportunity to become a global leader in sustainable marine energy generation. As a developer, we are very much at the forefront of this emerging low carbon economy; driving a critical change in the UK’s energy mix by developing infrastructure that harnesses the inherent natural power from the rise and fall of the coastal tides here in Wales. We are therefore delighted to be taking part in the inaugural Marine Energy Wales annual conference and look forward to sharing our vision to create a thriving and sustainable tidal lagoon industry.”

The conference will showcase Wales as a global leader in the marine energy sector. There are less than 20 tickets left, so it is recommended that anyone wishing to attend should book their tickets now.
