The SELKIE Project would like to reach out to businesses and offer our support through our project activities.
SELKIE is a cross-border project which aims to boost the marine energy industry in Wales and Ireland by bringing together leading researchers and businesses to improve the performance of marine renewable devices and technologies. University College Cork are leading the project in partnership with Swansea University, Marine Energy Wales, Menter Môn, DP Energy Ireland and Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions.
Multi-use technology tools, templates, standards and models are being created for use across the industry; which will be tested and validated on wave and tidal pilot demonstration technologies. The pilot testing will advance knowledge and improve marine energy devices in terms of their reliability, survivability, operability, stability and commercial viability. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Ireland Wales Cooperation programme.
SELKIE also aims to develop a marine renewable energy cross-border innovation network between Wales and Ireland. Our aim is to aid in the development of the marine energy sector by bringing together developers of marine energy technology with capable supply chain businesses.
Joining our network will provide you with:
- Non-financial business support, in the form of grant writing assistance, business diagnostics, etc.
- Breakfast meetings and public forums to collaborate on common challenges and opportunities within the marine energy sector.
- Access to open-source tools developed by academics on the project, including techno-economic models and designs for moorings of marine energy devices.
- Workshops to facilitate knowledge transfer on these tools.
Joining our network is free, as are the workshops and meetings and being informed of a new and emerging business sector in your area could provide opportunities for future business development.
SELKIE aims to provide direct support to 150 SMEs across Wales and Ireland over the 3 year course of the project – which runs until the end of 2022.
