Bombora Wave Power Challenge

This weekend Bombora is holding its inaugural ‘Bombora Wave Power Challenge’, where a total of forty dynamic students and academics will battle it out in an intensive technical engineering and water sporting event to win a prestigious trophy. As well as two Pembrokeshire College teams, engineering departments from the following six UK universities will be travelling to Pembroke Dock to take part: Bath, Cardiff, Cranfield, Plymouth, Southampton and Swansea. The event which has been sponsored by Welsh Government will be held at the beautiful setting of the Llanion Cove Outdoor Adventure Centre, in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park region.

“As well as having fun on the water, ultimately we are looking to inspire the next generation of marine engineers, celebrate the beautiful landscape in which we are fortunate enough to be based and encourage positive engagement and relationships with industry, academic institutions and of course our local community” said Chris Williams, Bombora’s Commercial Manager.

The challenge has attracted a great deal of interest and the judges, Professor Ian Masters of Swansea University, Paul Ellsmore of the ORE Catapult and Cam Algie of Bombora will have a tough job on their hands reviewing the innovative ideas that are expected to result from the technical challenge activities. The winning team will be awarded the ‘Bombora Wave Power Challenge Cup’ on Sunday afternoon by Andy Jones, Chief Executive Officer at the Port of Milford Haven.
