The Marine Energy Hub

The Marine Energy Hub (c) Marine Energy Wales

Leask Marine Ltd. has expanded its Wales base, moving from Marine Energy Wales’ Marine Energy Hub, into an adjacent, light industrial unit.

Leask Marine Ltd. established an office base in Wales, as part of Marine Energy Wales’ ‘Marine Energy Hub’ in May 2017. Leask Marine has been working with Marine Energy Wales members since 2015, to give expert advice and support regarding planned Welsh projects. The Leask Marine Wales office was set up, as a further commitment to Wales by Leask Marine Ltd.

The Marine Energy Hub was chosen as a location, as it encourages collaboration and knowledge sharing, as well as business growth. Through its base at the Hub, Leask Marine Ltd. has been able to provide an industry voice to inward investment visits and provide experienced knowledge sharing with local supply chain.

Starting 2020, Leask Marine Ltd. has moved to a light industrial unit on Pier Road in Pembroke Dock, to have workshop and equipment storage space, as well as administrative offices. The move from the Hub to a commercial unit makes way for the next step in Leask Marine Ltd.’s expansion of operations in Wales, as part of their Coastal Communities Fund Project to create jobs and increase investment in marine operations. Leask Marine Ltd. has recently purchased a Falcon ROV to support Marine Energy Wales and its members with projects based in the Marine Energy Test Area, the Pembrokeshire Demonstration Zone, as well as supporting any marine civil works in the region, Wales and wider UK.

John MacLeod – Leask Marine Ltd.’s Commercial Manager – thanked Marine Energy Wales for hosting the company to date:

“Being within the Marine Energy Hub has enabled Leask Marine Ltd. to be in touch with the requirements of the industry at a regional level and develop equipment and new services to support developers to move towards commercialisation”.

David Jones, Project Director of Marine Energy Wales commented of the expansion:

“We established the Marine Energy Hub in collaboration with the Port of Milford Haven to assist marine energy companies in Wales by providing a dynamic workspace. Over the past 4 years the Hub has been home to over 10 companies and we have seen the benefits this collaborative work environment can bring. We have been pleased to host Leask Marine whilst they established their base in Wales and we wish them success in their expanded operations”.

Leask Marine is able to support projects from their design to deployment to decommissioning. Its operational base within Wales to specifically target the growing marine renewables and aquaculture markets, with some bespoke innovation ideas, to reduce customer’s project costs and risks and speed up the commercialisation process for both markets. This approach is aligned with the UK Industrial Strategy and Clean Growth plan, where the need to lower the cost of marine energy is critical.
