Marine Energy Wales will be hosting an online hustings event with key Welsh political party representatives for the Senedd 2021 election focused on Emerging Offshore Renewable Energy including tidal stream, wave, tidal range and floating offshore wind on Thursday 22nd April from 10am – 11am.

Emerging offshore renewables can play a significant role in the Green Recovery; in providing predictable sources for a diverse energy mix, boosting UK manufacturing and skilled jobs in coastal communities, contributing practical, local action against climate change and creating major export opportunities of technologies and Welsh expertise. In Wales, we have the resource to host all of the above technologies, providing clean, green energy through harnessing the power of our oceans and accelerating Wales’ commitment to decarbonisation.

Political support is crucial to the development of this growing industry and this event will give you the opportunity to hear from the key Welsh political parties on their commitments to enabling the sustainable development of the Emerging Offshore Renewable Energy sector in Wales and how their actions will affect delivery of this industry. We will facilitate questions around this topic and their main priorities for achieving net zero and the green recovery in the next Senedd term including practical actions for COP26.
Information about the candidates to follow.

The hustings will be chaired by Peter Davies with a welcome and introduction from Jess Hooper, Marine Energy Wales Programme Manager. After a short statement from each political party, we will be posing your questions to the panel.

Our panel:

Llyr Gruffydd (Plaid Cymru)

Charlie Evans (Welsh Conservatives)

Helen Westhead (Welsh Green Party)

Eluned Morgan (Welsh Labour)

Andrew Parkhurst (Welsh Liberal Democrats)
